VARICOSE VEINS TREATMENT
Factors such as genetic, pregnancy, hot weather, standing for a long time, a sedentary lifestyle, wearing extremely tight clothes, hormonal problems and obesity are effective in the formation of varicose veins . Varicose veins is a condition that should never be underestimated, reducing the quality of life.
As age increases , the probability of having varicose veins also increases. One out of every two people over the age of 50 is faced with this problem. The incidence in women is four times higher than in men.
There are four types of varicose veins. These be listed as:
- Spider Veins
- Reticular Varicose Veins
- Saphenous Varicose Veins
- Deep Veins
Treatment Methods
The method used varies depending on the size of the varicose and the degree of spread. Doppler patients before treatment Before the treatment, the patients are examined in detail with Doppler ultrasound and the treatment method is decided.
- Sclerotherapy (needle treatment): It is the process of injecting medications into the vein with fine needles. The process known as foam treatment is the application of this medication by turning it into foam.
- Endovenous interventions ( Laser therapy, Radiofrequency Ablation ): The catheter inserted into the vein with ultrasound ensures the shrinkage of the varicose. If varicose veins are at the skin level, laser application can be made on the skin.
In this treatment, if there are pouches (enlarged side branches) below the knee, they are cleaned with 2-3 mm incisions. These incisions usually do not require stitches and leave no scars. Incisions can be made under general or local anesthesia . The choice is left to the patient.Before Operation
On the day of the varicose treatment , the legs are not shaved and no lotion is applied to the legs. It is necessary to start wearing compression stockings at least 3-4 days before . On the day of the procedure, the patient should bring compression stockings and shorts; comfortable and loose clothing should be preferred.
It is necessary to stop taking blood thinners one week before the sclerotherapy application, and to stop smoking and alcohol use two days before.
Post Process
After the treatment of varicose veins, it is necessary to wear compression stockings for the period recommended by the doctor .
The patient should take 30-minute walks for two weeks to prevent the risk of clot formation in the vein. But, heavy exercises should be avoided.
After the procedure, pain, bruising, itching, burning, redness may occur. If laser treatment is applied, it is recommended to apply a warm compress, and if sclerotherapy treatment is applied, a cold compress is recommended. Medications prescribed by the doctor can also be used. If severe pain and difficulty in walking occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
In the first week, no hot bath or Turkish bath is allowed. If sclerotherapy ( foam treatment ) is applied, the leg is not shaved for the first 3-4 days and the first month is not exposed to direct sunlight.
