Facelift Surgery (Facelift)

Facelift surgery is a cosmetic surgery performed to eliminate facial deformations. The fact that face is the most memorable and remarkable part of the human body has caused increased interest in facelift surgeries to improve the quality of appearance.

Today, the most obvious sign of aging is wrinkles and sagging.  Unfortunately, all conditions such as the use of facial muscles while speaking, our facial expressions, weather conditions, the effects of make-up and cosmetic products cause the face to age very quickly. In addition, gravity is also effective in sagging and aging of the face. It has become possible to get rid of all these effects with facelift surgeries.

What is Facelift surgery?

Facelift surgery or Rhytidectomy operation is a surgical procedure performed to eliminate wrinkles and sagging problems that occur when the fat tissue on the face decreases and the skin loses its elasticity. Facelift operation, also called face rejuvenation surgery is performed to the cheek and neck area.

Treatment Process

Smoking should be stopped 10 days before the facelift surgery, and should take a break from skin care and sunbathing for a while. The patient should discuss expectations in detail with doctor. It is very important to inform the patient about the postoperative process.

Facelift surgery should be performed in hospital conditions, in the operating room under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. This surgery, which is usually performed under general anesthesia, may also be performed under local anesthesia with sedation support. The surgery takes an average of 2-2.5 hours. It is possible to go home the same day after the operation. Combined surgeries may prolong the duration of the operation and require a one-day stay in the hospital.

The scar of the facelift surgery will definitely remain, but it is not an obvious scar. Surgery is performed on the scalp in the temple area to be hidden in front of and behind the ear.

After Treatment

Complications that may occur after Face Lift Operation:

  • swelling,
  • bruising,
  • lethargy,
  • tension.

Sometimes the facial nerves may be affected by anesthesia, and temporary asymmetries may be seen on the face in these patients.

After the facelift procedure, the patient’s face is dressed, except for the eyes, nose and mouth. In order to prevent accumulations that may occur inside, rubber pipes called drains can be placed. It will be removed within 2 days at the latest. On the 2nd-3rd days, when the dressing is opened, the hair can be washed. Stitches are taken on average 5-7 days after the surgery.
