Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelids are the most remarkable and striking areas of aging. Because eyelids are very mobile and thin skin that they are dropped in advancing age. Accordingly, eyelid drooping causes an unaesthetic appearance. It can also cause vision problems in person. Plastic eyelid surgery is among the popular solutions to address these types of deterioration and problems that occur in appearance due to aging today.
What is aesthetic eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is the correction of sagging and loosening of the eyelid. Bleapharoplasty is one of the most preferred treatment methods for the removal of sagging and bagging around the eyes. With eyelid surgery, the signs of aging are eliminated, as well as vision problems caused by sagging.
Treatment process
In the pre-operative examination, Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery is planned according to the amount of fat in the upper and lower eyelids of the patient, excess skin and deterioration in eyebrow. If there is swelling around the eyes, the reason for this is revealed and evaluated before the operation. Patients with eye pressure should be examined by an ophthalmologist before surgery. In diseases such as diabetes, heart and vascular diseases, planning is made by evaluating it by the plastic surgeon.
Blepharoplasty should be performed in hospital conditions, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist and in the operating room environment. In this operation, localized anesthesia and intravenous sedation (sedation via vessel path) are preferred. Under treatment, only the top, or bottom covers, or both the bottom and top covers can be operated at the same time, its depending on the patient’s current complaints.
Early post-op period usually goes well. But after surgery, in the patient’s eyes and around the eyes;
- swelling
- bruising
- burning sensation
- Blur of vision
- Like sensitivity to light
Temporary and natural discomfort may occur. These complaints will disappear by themselves within a week of treatment.
Recovery process and Considerations
The eyes should not be rubbed for 24 hours after the operation. Dressings are taken by the plastic surgeon 4-5 days after the eyelid surgery. In order to keep the bruises and swellings in and around the treated area under control, it is necessary to sleep with the head at an angle of 30-40 degrees for 3 nights after the operation.
Applying cold compresses to the eyes 1-2 days after the operation is beneficial in reducing swelling and bruising. After treatment, there may be blood in the eye, which minimizes the risk of inflammation. After day 2, the hair can be washed by laying the head back.. after 5 days, the patient can take a bath. It takes 2 weeks for the eyelids to heal precisely. After treatment, it is important to use sunglasses in daily life. The patient who takes care of ownself can maintain the esthetic form of eyelids for years to come.
