CLOSED METHOD CERVİCAL DISCAL HERNIA SURGERY (ENDOSCOPIC)
Nowadays, with the increase of spending more time in front of electronic devices, cervical discal hernia is among the most common diseases. Cervical discal hernia, which causes posture disorders, can also cause severe pain in the patient.
With endoscopic cervical discal hernia surgery, this disease has become much easier to treat.
Cervical discal hernia occurs when the discs between the cervical vertebrae protrude. The protruding discs compress the nerves to the arm and fingers, or the spinal cord. This may lead to the following
complaints in the patient:
- Imbalance
- Difficulty in walking
- Weak arms and difficulty holding objects
- Numbness in fingertips and arms
- Pain in the shoulders and neck
Before Surgery
Prior to surgery, the patient is evaluated for the overall health condition by performing computerized tomography, MR and EMG tests.
Operation
During the operation, an incision of 6-7 mm is made from the neck. The hernia is removed by descending to the hernia area with the help of an endoscope through this incision. In this surgery, which takes about 30-60 minutes, healthy tissues and the mechanics of the neck are preserved.
Postoperative
After endoscopic cervical discal hernia surgery, the patient’s comfort is at a good level. They are less likely to experience neck and muscle pain. Recovery time is shorter than other surgeries. In most cases, a hospital stay is not required. It is recommended to rest at home.
The patient can continue daily activities after the surgery. It is normal to experience difficulty in swallowing and hoarseness for a few days. However, if the scar is dilated, discharge or swelling is observed, the doctor should be informed.
Care should be taken to use the neck collar given by the doctor .
