Coronary Stent Surgery

Coronary Stent surgery is used in the treatment of coronary artery diseases caused by factors such as aging, smoking and alcohol use, diabetes, obesity , high blood pressure, cholesterol, stress, and sedentary life .

When coronary artery stenosis occurs, the heart begins to strain. This brings along problems such as difficulty in moving, shortness of breath, chest tightness.

If the stenosis is at a dangerous level, it should be intervened. Medication alone is not enough. Therefore, additional treatment is needed.

These treatments are as follows:

  • Coronary By-Pass
  • Coronary Stent

What is a stent ?

The metal tubes placed in the heart vessel to open the stenosis or occlusion of the coronary vessel are called stents .

There are four types of stents :

  • Metal Stent : These are stents made of metal wire mesh .
  • Drug-eluting Stent: These stents contain drugs to reduce restenosis. They continue to secrete drugs for a certain period of time in the area where they are placed.
  • Dissolving Stent : These are the stents that dissolve on their own after completing their task . Therefore, they are not made of metal.
  • Patch Stent : These are stents obtained by special coating of metal mesh .
