SCOLIOSIS

Scoliosis is the name given to the curvature of the spine to the right or left. It’s more likely to be seen in girls. The cause may be congenital or unknown. In people with scoliosis , the hips and shoulders are asymmetrical. One shoulder is further ahead than the other.

Treatment

If scoliosis is not too advanced, treatment can be applied without surgery. That’s why early diagnosis is so important. Diagnosis is made by using X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, scoliosismeter. If the slope is less than 40 degrees, conservative treatment can be applied. Methods such as painkillers, physical therapy, exercise, corset can be used. If the slope is above 40 degrees, it is necessary to refer to the surgical method.

Scoliosis Surgery

In scoliosis surgery, the most appropriate method for the patient’s condition is preferred. Factors such as the patient’s age, the region of the disease, determine which method to use.

The main purpose of surgery is to fix the spine. To do this, rods and screws can be installed in the back or waist area . The risks that may occur with the neuromonitoring device used are minimized. Scoliosis surgeries that take an average of 4-8 hours are among the surgeries that carry risks.

KYPHOSIS

Kyphosis , colloquially known as hunchback, occurs when the spine bends forward. This is usually due to poor posture . Patients may complain of the appearance, back pain and fatigue.

Kyphosis Treatment

If the curvature in the back area is above 40 degrees, exercise therapy is applied. In curves between 55-70 degrees, patient-specific physical therapy is applied. However, if the slope is too high and above 70 degrees, the humpback should be corrected by performing surgical interventions.

After the surgical intervention, the patient be able to stand up after 24 hours.  Discharge from the hospital is within 3 to 4 days. After 3 months, the patient can start light exercises. Full recovery occurs at the end of 1 year.
