Arm Lift surgery (Brachioplasty)

 Arm Lift Plastic surgery is the process of removing sagging skin on the arm by surgical methods. Sagging on the back and inside of the upper arm usually occurs with fat accumulations and skin sagging. Because the skin and subcutaneous tissue are looser in this region. Generally, factors such as familial predisposition, aging, weight gain and loss, exposure to the sun, and gravity cause sagging by further increasing the relaxation in the skin and subcutaneous tissue.

Arm sagging, which may occur for various reasons, causes an unaesthetic appearance. Patients often prefer arm lift surgery to get rid of this bad image.  The sagging on the arm is two-dimensional, both transversely and longitudinally across the skin. For this reason, the skin should be cut both transversely and longitudinally and the sagging skin should be removed. Transverse skin is easy to hide because it is removed by the cutaneous underarm.

Treatment Process

Before Arm Lift Surgery;

As in preparing for all surgeries requiring general anesthesia, a 6-hour fasting period is required before the operation. The patient who will undergo surgery should stop taking drugs that will prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, at least 3 days before the surgery.

The basic principle in arm lift surgery is to remove the excess skin and give the arm a tight look. Depending on the thickness of the fat layer under the skin and the sagging rate of the arm skin, the surgery planning may change. Arm lift surgery can also be performed with different techniques. When there is a skin loosening due to weight gain and loss, the skin may appear thicker than normal. In this case, liposuction may be required. After the liposuction procedure, the excess skin should be removed with an incision.

After Arm Lift Surgery

Rubber pipe drains can be placed in this area to prevent postoperative bleeding and fluid accumulation. These are taken after 2-3 days at the most. It is recommended to keep the arms high, especially on the first days after surgery. Compressed bandage is applied to reduce swelling, edema and bleeding that may occur in the operation area. After three days, an elastic bandage is applied in the form of a sock that wraps the arm for shape.

In fact, there is little or no pain in the arm lift surgery recovery process. If there is pain, the use of painkillers will be sufficient. Return to normal life is within a few days. The patient can only do daily activities for the first two weeks. You can start sports such as jogging in the third week, where you do not use your arms, and effort sports such as tennis after the eighth week. After the treatment, the scar inside the operation area will be reddish at first, but will become thinner and paler over time and become less obvious.
